An anthology by award-winning B.C. adventure writer, Daniel Wood.
With a career spanning five decades, writer Daniel Wood’s adventures have inspired, informed, and entertained generations of readers about British Columbia’s charms. Whether he’s exploring human nature, scientific discoveries, oddities, or environmental wonders, at the centre of those explorations are people, their ideas, and their dreams. Written by B.C.’s most acclaimed writer and journalist, this anthology features 28 award-winning magazine articles, including a near-death hotair balloon ride, B.C.’s pot-growing pioneers, Elvis impersonators in the Okanagan, the province’s first dino-dig, and its last free-range cowboys. You won’t find a better collection of B.C. tales anywhere.
Daniel Wood is one of Canada’s best-known magazine writers. He’s the author of 14 books, both fiction and non-fiction, and hundreds of articles, covering a wide spectrum of issues and appearing in a variety of publications. He has likely won more awards for his magazine writing—over 30—than any Canadian. In decades of working as an international journalist, he has travelled to a majority of the world’s countries. No place is too remote. He likes to go to the edge, because the best stories often occur where mystery, danger, and ambiguity reside. He has been a member of the prestigious Explorers Club. Over the decades, he taught non-fiction writing to several thousand students at Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia, and workshops across B.C. He sees his former students as his legacy. Daniel Wood 1943-2021.
